The Union Minister for the Ministry of Education, Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, together with responsible officials, met this morning, with principals of primary, middle, and high schools in Myitkyina at the meeting hall of Basic Education High School No. (1), Myitkyina.
During the meeting, the Union Minister stated that the education sector, which is fundamental for the country's development, is extremely important. She emphasised that primary school teachers play a crucial role in enabling students to progress to middle and high school levels. Primary education forms the foundation for improving student transition rates between grades. Therefore, primary school teachers have an important responsibility not only to teach their students but also to nurture and guide them.
To improve the quality of primary school teachers, plans are being implemented to provide training programs in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) as well as English language proficiency training.
She also said that arrangements are being made so that students at the middle school level of basic education will gain knowledge in industrial, agricultural, and livestock-related subjects starting from the upcoming academic year. She encouraged collective efforts to ensure that students’ complete education up to Grade 9, which is a national policy. Teachers and parents were urged to work together to increase student grade transition rates.
She further encouraged the implementation of a library-based learning system. Since teachers serve as role models for students, they should observe discipline and dress in a manner consistent with cultural values. As civil servants, education staff were also reminded to faithfully cast their votes in support of the state.
In addition, she stressed the importance of sports and physical exercise so that students can maintain good physical health and strength. She also invited participants to present and discuss any needs or requirements.
Afterward, the Union Minister responded to and addressed the presentations made by the attending teachers and staff. Afterwards, at the Education Degree College, the principal, teachers, and staff were met. During the meeting, the principal and heads of departments presented and discussed information related to teaching, learning activities, and administrative matters.
In response to the presentations and discussions, the Union Minister stated that graduates of Education Degree Colleges are currently serving as primary and middle school teachers. She added that arrangements are being made to upgrade some Education Degree Colleges into Universities of Education so that graduates will have the opportunity to continue studying postgraduate programs. Therefore, opportunities to pursue postgraduate education will become available.
She also said that Myitkyina Education Degree College has achieved excellence not only in academic fields but also in arts subjects and sports, and she expressed her wish that they continue to maintain their reputation as individuals who bring honor to the state.
