Union Minister Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein attends opening ceremony of Basic Physical Education and Sports Instructor Training Course No.(23)

The Department of Basic Education under the Ministry of Education held the opening ceremony of the Basic Physical Education and Sports Instructor Course No. (23) this morning at the Lewe Sports Training Camp in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint, Directors-General, Deputy Directors-General, Directors, training instructors, trainees and invited guests.

 

At the ceremony, the Union Minister said that the Basic Physical Education and Sports Instructor Training Course No. (1) was first opened in 1985 and a total of 9,024 physical education teachers had been trained up to Course No. (22). The course is conducted with the aim of nurturing students who possess good moral character, unity and sound health, supporting the effective implementation of the KG+12 education system and filling vacancies for physical education teachers in basic education schools.She added that the course would include theoretical lectures on physical education administration, basic principles of physical education, teaching methods of physical education and sports, anatomy and medicine, biomechanics, and physical education subjects prescribed for different grades under the KG+12 system.

 

In addition, practical and theoretical lessons will be given in football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, table tennis, sepak takraw, badminton, basic military training, and physical fitness. The aim is to nurture well-rounded youth with strong physical and moral character who can contribute to the nation’s future. In basic education schools, alongside academic subjects, students will also be taught life skills, physical education, arts (painting, music) character development, and civic ethics as part of the curriculum. Therefore, trainees are expected to become capable physical education teachers who can train students to be outstanding, healthy, and responsible citizens. The Union Minister also said that basic education schools should not focus only on academic subjects but should also emphasise comprehensive education including life skills, physical education, arts such as painting and music, moral education and civic studies. She urged the trainees are expected to become capable physical education teachers who can train students to be outstanding, healthy, and responsible citizens who will take responsibility for the future of the nation.

 

After the ceremony, the Union Minister inspected the dining hall and cordially greeted the training instructors and trainees.

 

The Basic Physical Education and Sports Instructor Training Course No. (23) will be conducted from 5 January to 13 February. A total of 400 trainees including 212 men and 188 women who successfully passed systematic selection tests on five types of physical fitness and sports skills were admitted to the course. They include assistant primary and assistant middle school teachers with two years of service after graduation, as well as junior primary and junior middle school teachers with one year of service after graduation. After the course had been finished, they will be appointed as Deputy Middle School Physical Education Teachers at basic education middle schools and basic education branch high schools.
