Union Minister Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein holds coordination meeting on upgrading some Education Degree Colleges to Universities of Education

A coordination meeting to discuss the upgrading of some Education Degree Colleges to Universities of Education was held today afternoon at the meeting hall of Office No. (13), Ministry of Education, in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint, Directors-General from the Ministry of Education, rectors and professors from Yangon University of Education and Sagaing University of Education, as well as principals of Education Degree Colleges.

 

Firstly, the Union Minister said that the coordination meeting was convened to discuss upgrading some of the 25 Education Degree Colleges under the Department of Teacher Education of the Ministry of Education to the level of Universities of Education. The initiative aims to meet the demand for high school teachers in basic education schools and to create opportunities for outstanding students among the prospective middle school teachers trained at Education Degree Colleges to pursue further studies.

 

The Union Minister also urged participants to discuss and provide suggestions on curriculum and teaching requirements, the need for teaching staff, university-level facilities, the required buildings and teaching aids, financial support, and the degrees to be conferred.

 

Next, Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint presented detailed explanations and coordinated discussions.

 

Afterwards, the rectors of the Universities of Education and the principals of the Education Degree Colleges took part in the discussions and offered suggestions.
