The opening ceremony of the non-formal middle education Second Semester (Semester 2, 4, 6) Trainers’ Capacity Building Course for the 2025–2026 academic year is held at the Office of the Department of Non-formal Education and Lifelong Education, located at No. (426) Pyay Road, Yangon, at 9 a.m., today.
The opening ceremony of the course was attended by the Deputy Minister for Education, U Nay Myo Hlaing, Directors General and Deputy Directors General of the Ministry of Education, the Chairperson of the Myanmar Curriculum Committee, officials from the Literacy Support Main Team, trainers, trainee teachers who are participating in the implementation of the Non-Formal Middle School Education course, and invited guests.
First, the Deputy Minister said arrangements are being made to ensure that those who were unable to complete basic education for various reasons are given opportunities to continue their studies through non-formal school education. He noted that the Ministry of Education is fulfilling its national responsibility by implementing pathways from non-formal school education to formal school education or technical and vocational education. Non-formal middle school education has been implemented since 2016 and will continue in 29 townships in the 2025–2026 academic year with 2,615 students, he added.
Teachers involved in non-formal education are provided with annual capacity building courses similar to those for formal school teachers, under the management of the Department of Non-formal Education and Lifelong Education and with technical support from the Literacy Support Main Team. The Deputy Minister urged teachers and supervisors who are attending the training to apply the knowledge and teaching techniques learned to ensure quality education for learners at non-formal school education centres and to help nurture them as valuable assets for the future of the nation.
Afterwards, the Deputy Minister presented grants to trainee teachers, which were received by the Director General of the Department of Non-formal Education and Lifelong Education.
Dr Tin Nyo, Chairman of the Literacy Support Main Team, then delivered a welcoming address, and the Director General of the Department of Non-formal Education and Lifelong Education explained the activities of non-formal middle school education.
The second-semester capacity building course for trainers (Semester 2, 4, 6) for the 2025–2026 academic year will run from January 7 to 16.
After the ceremony, the Deputy Minister inspected the ten-unit staff housing at the Department of Non-formal Education and Lifelong Education, and fulfilled any needs, it is learned.
Subsequently, the Deputy Minister inspected No. (1) Basic Education High School in Lanmadaw Township and No. (1) Basic Education High School in Kyimyindine Township, and fulfilled any needs, it is learned. He also presented grants to teachers at the respective schools were received by responsible teachers.
